A suspicious package delivered to Sen. Katie Britt’s home

At approximately 11:30 a.m. today, Montgomery police officers and firefighters responded to a call of a suspicious package being delivered to the home of U.S. Senator Katie Britt, R-AL.

Following protocol of Capitol police, the first responders were able to inspect and ascertain that the package was not harmful. Britt has been at home recovering from a recent health issue.

Sen. Britt’s press secretary, Sean Ross, sent the following press statement to APR. The statement is from the senator herself.
“Earlier today, a suspicious package was found at my home in Montgomery,” said Britt. “The U.S. Capitol Police and the Montgomery Police Department were contacted and they quickly coordinated a response. After working the scene, the FBI and EOD Team cleared the package and declared it safe for my family and me to return home. Wesley and I want to thank the local and federal authorities involved for their prompt, professional response and their swift action to ensure the security of our family and community.”

As inquiries around the state increased since the incident, well-wishers expressed relief that Britt and her family were safe and well.
